I've got a few questions for those who have installed FMS headers on V8 X's.

Looking over the install instructions they suggest pulling/collapsing the steering shaft, disconnecting the fuel lines, and also having to modify the dip stick tube. I want to know if all of this is necessary? I've searched and read all of the old posts, but could not find info on any of these details. The instructions don't list torque specs either, just "tighten evenly" which is BS. Anybody have proper specs? Any tips on making this as easy as possible would be appreciated as well. I am probably going to tear into "ol leaky" next week and want to have a proper game plan. Thanks in advance.:D

26-32 LB-Ft is the factory torque spec. I'd like to know how others solved the installation problems.

I couldn't figure out how to do the dip stick tube so I bent it and made a bracket to hold it by the valve cover.

I don't recall if we removed the fuel lines, but my best memory is no... As for the steering shaft, Yes you'll need to colapse it, its on bolt to take off, its not that hard... You'll need a tube bender to modify the dipstick tube... I borrowed one from Autozone...

Watched my mechanic install my FMS headers. He took the inner plastic fender liners out which made the job a whole lot easier and faster. Don't believe he collasped the steering linkage, though. Probably the best decision I made was to buy Stage 8 stainless bolts! Expensive, but definately worth it.

:D Thanks for the tips guys. Sounds like the steering shaft is no big deal, and that the fuel lines can be left alone. Don't worry, I already have the Stage 8 bolts to use. I'm not screwing around with the crappy bolts Ford supplies! I have decided that the hardest part of this install will probably be getting an EGR boss fitted/aligned properly, and also removing the old manifold studs. Wish me luck! :hammer:

The old manifold studs should come right out... DO IT BY HAND... One guy on here tried using a gun, not a good idea, now he's stripped a couple of them... Mine on my 96 came right out, no problems...
