Uh do a search.

As if this hasn't come up before........

a4ld

will i have to change my a4ld tranny to compensate for the 5.0?

Yes you will you need to changed the A4LD out to something that will fit. If you do a search you will see what needs to be done.

im sorry, can you recommend what i need to put in the search box?

type in things like:

5.0 conversion

AOD

AA

Advance adapters

And you'll come up with something.

They're alot more than bolt in... ALOT! Oh, and asp84-- Still waiting on the helms :(

Well, the engine is a bolt in after you adapt it to fit.

I found the L&L Product adapters to be really well built and easy to use.
After adapting the transmission to the transfer case everything bolted together.
I didn't have a problem with height, positioning or any type of alignment.
The harness was the more difficult part but with the Ford Booklet, about 5.0 Wire Harness install, it went forward with only one hitch, the fuel pump didn't come on. A call to Ford and that was that, bing/bam thank you Ford it was running.

If you have enough experience with engines and there electrical systems and can read schematics and able to take your time the process will go over without a hitch.

Working part time it took me and a buddy about a week to convert my Ranger/5.0.

One thing, the heater box in the engine compartment will need to be modified. If you use a body lift it will require less or no modifications. I found it easier to take the outside part of the heater box out of the vehicle and modify it on the bench. Work with the suggestions from the adapter manufacturer but test fit it a couple of times just to make sure.

Good Luck,
:us: :chug: :can:

How about on a 96 XLT 4x4 with a 4.0? I'm thinking about doin this because I'll be at school for 1 yr and coming home and whatnot, and my dad is pretty knowledgable with that stuff. I would have at least 2 months to get it to work. Also whats the cost involved? I have about 2-3k to spend max.

unless your able to "work the deals" and custom fab alot of the parts like speedfreak did, $2,000 -3000 dollars is kinda skimpy for a 4x4 5.0 conversion. For most of us it cost between 3-6K , depending on how wild you get.

ESPN Freak: The 5.0 conversion for your rig is "drop in"
How to integrate the wiring is a subject that is still unknown to me. That is on the basis that you have a 96+ explorer to get all the engine, tranny, TC, and exhaust parts from. YOUR CURRENT 4.0 Trans will not work nor bolt up.
