Here's was my journey.

I install a manual transmission on a '96 5.0 Ex project. That was the easy part.
I knew about the ECM automatic transmission codes and the VSS issues, not that big of a deal.
BUT I had to installed a manual transmission that has a 40 tooth impulse VSS unit (Ford is 8ppr and is GM is 40ppr).
Now that's where the $hit got deep.

I had a SCT dealer (no one on this forum) reprogram the ECM to switch off the automatic transmission
codes and try and correct for the VSS difference, but he couldn't do it. He said to run without the VSS.
That sounded half as$ to me, the VSS controls way to much.

So I purchased one of these interface units to see if it would work for my issue.
The interface unit cames in a box that wasn't much larger than the unit itself.
It came with no fuse, wires, or connectors, but had instructions.
The unit didn't look to be water resistant, so I recommend mounting the unit in the
cabin area of the vehicle hopefully where it stays nice a dry.

The instructions were fairly easy to follow. I installed their unit as for my issue,
Setup tips: If (without the interface) your speedometer reads much too fast, then you will most
likely need to use Application 3, page 6. I also did a minor Calibration page 3.

Voila, Speedometer reads correctly, no more OBDII monitor test issues, no more ECM P0500 codes, and
now I can adjust for tire diameter changes myself.
