Hey guys, I have got a quick question... I recently found the problem with my truck, It was my MAS. So I made a trip to the junkyard and grabbed a MAS off of a 92' T-Bird, 5.0 Auto. I put this on my 93' XLT Auto with a 4.0. It definitely added some power. There is a forum on here somewhere about this swap but I cannot find it..... Anyways just wondering if I did this wrong, I'm running the 5.0 MAS as is, meaning I did not put the 4.0 guts in it, is this correct? I know that some will say this did not add power and it not the right way to do it..... I know this, but it DID add power, anyways what do you guys think or know about this???
i have one in my truck also. got it cheap at my local you pull it.
when i installed mine, i also added the cone filter set up at the same time. its alot louder, and meaner sounding, but in all truth, i doubt there was any power gain. i did notice a 2 mpg increase though after adding them!
The 5.0 Mustang/Thunderbird, 3.8 Thunderbird & Taurus engines all use 19lb injectors MAS. They will all work with the Explorer 4.0 19 lb injector MAS.
If someone used an aftermarket MAS for their Mustang, it coould be calibrated for larger injectors which you should look out for but stock 19lb units are good to go.
So if I get this correctly, if I call up the junkyard and ask for a MAF from a 5.0 mustang, it should not only bolt right in and fix my check engine like but also give me a slight increase in power & fuel economy?
U know.... before this swap my engine ran very poorly, I already have some mods done I this thats why it added so much power. Not to mention now I dont need the cone filter adapter because the 5.0 MAS has the right inlet. Anyways now my engine runs great again and has more power for only 30 bucks!!!! Yesterday I ported my TB A LOT. havent got a chance to let the pcm relearn the parameters because I reset them...... it will have more power once this occours (about 100 miles) but last night I just baaarrrrrely got beat by a brand new mustang V-6. I think if the KAM was set I coulda beat em. Not bad for a 93' 4500 pound BOX LOLOL
Using this MAS from 5.0 Mustangs will not give you more power. The only real benefit is being able to connect a cone filter without any adapters like with the 4.0 EX MAS.
They are the same diameter and injector calibration size (19lb).
Very likely your MAFS element was dirty. Had you ever cleaned it? The new MAFS you installed was likely cleaner than your old one, resulting in the noted added power increase.
