whoops,

hi,

I'm looking to buy a V8 powered explorer, I've been looking at the available engine mods, and i was surprised to find so little for them. I've really only found one good website, (explorer express) but they only have an intake, and exhaust and the supercharger. But c'mon this is a 5.0.....My main question is how interchangeable are the performance parts of the mustang 5.0 (ie....MAF's T-body's, heads, intake manif.....etc) So what's out there??? THanx

there is alot of things that can interchange... Search the site, and you'll find, there is more out there than ya think. Also, there are many other places that are better than explorer express.

I second the comment on explorer express. They are completely overpriced.

thanks...yeah, when i e-mailed Explorer Express wanting more power options he was like "you don't need all that crap, just buy our supercharger kit" (paraphrase).....SO i was thinking of going with some other type of car......but I knew there had to be more out there for the Explorer....Anyone making a lot of power out of their N/A explorers??

Yeah, the 5.0 makes pretty decent power, but i was just wondering how radical anyone has gotten with it, in an Explorer that is....Also Explorer Express told me that it was impossible to lower the front of the 95-00 more than 1 3/8 inches.....is this true?......it seems like there has to be some way to do it...Anyways....thankz for all the input.
 






you can lower the front up to 5". it will ride like crap, though. just about anything over 2" is pretty harsh. im assuming they told you that because they wanted you to buy their "drop kit". im also assuming they told you you didnt need "all that crap" because they wanted you to buy their charger. man, one phone call and that salesman would have made about a $4300 sale! anyway, MOST 'stang engine stuff will enter-change. injectors, mass air, heads, cam, lifters, and a few other things. here's what you're gettin' with a stock 5.0 X. (someone correct me if im wrong on one of these.) Cobra intake, GT-40p heads, motorsport headers (that FoMoCo screwed up buy "pinching" at the flange, 65 mm throttle body, 19 lb. injectors, TINY roller cam, and lifters that will tick sooner or later. basically, a mustang motor (with a few bonus parts) with a very small cam. the filter box is VERY restrictive, and so is the exhaust. adapting a 'stang throttle body is do-able, but you'll have to fab some of the linkage. the ignition is different, as ford went to the OBD-II in 96 (after the 'stang had went to the 4.6) hope some of this helps.
