Hey there all....wow it has been a while since i was on here but ive got a new project. I am going to swap a 5.0 into my 96 and was wondering if you all had any tips on what was a pain and what would make things more simple. here is what i have so far.

2000 5.0 2wd with tranny and complete motor w/ accessories....only 84k on the clock!!
wire harness between the motor and body for all the engine and tranny sensors
ECU from a 98 mounty v8 2wd

i pulled this all out of a u-pull-it place...they have tons of explorers so if i need something else (computer / wireing) let me know.

Now here is my questions...there are not about fitment i can get that...it is for all the wireing and such...am i on the right track or should i get the ECU from an older X? any other wiring i am going to need? I would like to make this as plug and play as possibe....so anything i can use existing on the 96 like fuel and wireing i would love. i was reading that the newer fuel systems are returnless....any advantages? if so is it easy to convert the 96 to that? also do i need to convert the main power system to the 2000 or another v8 year? if so is all the wireing on the interior the same as the 96 so i can just plug it in and go?

Anything else im missing?

Thanks guys

no one?

If possible get the ECU from the same Explorer you pulled the engine from. You will need one regardless for a V8. The reason I suggest the same one is it will match. There is a code on the ECU and they are not the same for each Explorer & could cause a problem.

mmmm....well the ECU was already gone by the time i got to it....i know i need the computer...i have one...but its out of a 98 mounty v8. but should i get an older one...i just realized that the newer ones have the chip keys....when did that start? 98 ill bet..
