I am at the point in my project that requires me to add an intake manifold to my new 5.0 if I want it to run.
My problem is that I want a smaller manifold than is currently available from Ford and the aftermarket, ie Edelbrock, Trick Flow, Holley...
I would like to use some thing like the Comp Polymer Box but I am told that it was designed for higher rpm use than I want. I wonder if I can add a spacer between the sections and add to the low rpm range of this manifold ?

Has anyone had any experience with intake manifolds on 5.0L used for torque applications ?
Any help would be appreciated, expert help is welcome too.

Tnx for your time,

the comp is a good intake for high rpm. all so if you dont use the egr spacer make sure you use stock valve covers other wise the TB will hit. all so if you want torque i recomend using the stock explorer intake or use two svo 1 inch spacers to give you more runner lenght. later

Stay with the long runner design manifolds if you want to keep the low end torque!!!

The explorer manifold, gt40, and cobra manifold are all essentially the same. There are only slight variations.

The edelbrock performer 5.0 is also a good choice. It is the longest runner design of the 3 edelbrock efi manifolds. As a bonus, the plenum cover can be unbolted for easy port work.

Whatever you do, stay away from the "box" style manifolds, unless you plan on winding your engine up to 8000 rpm.

Thanks for the info...

Thanks "ExplorerDady" and "QuadCam" for taking time to input some info.

I am still not happy but it looks lilke the Edelbrock Street Performer 5.0 is the choise.

If you guys are still handy, what happens if I add a 1" spacer to the Edelbrock manifold ?

Tnx,

The spacer should give you an extra inch of runner length, which will change the ram tuning effect of the manifold. In theory, you should get a little more low end torque, while sacrificing a little topend HP and rpm.

What exactly is you goal for your navajo? 1/4 mile? offroading?

Quad Cam, Tnx for te repy.

I am building this thing to do off roading.
Final gear ratio will be around 100 to 1.
I want the low end more.

The 5.0L engine was built around a 1300-5000 rpm cam, 9.0 compression.

Tnx,

Stock Explorer 5.0L Intake Manifold

What does the stock 5.0L Explorer Intake look like and is there any performance data available any where ?

Tnx
Sandy

The stock 5.0 explorer intake manifold looks like a combination of a 93 cobra intake and a gt40 intake.

It is really the same as both of those. generally speaking, the 93 cobra manifold is a cast version of the tubular gt-40. expect the same performance out of all 3 manifolds.

one other thing of note is that the explorer manifold has a 90 degree elbow bolted onto the opening of the manifold.

bye,

Andrew

Tnx

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure where I will go but the info helps.
