The title says it all, When warmed up reverse is fine. Trans. fluid is way overdue to be changed, Could a clogged filter cause this? Thanks.

Not really, but old trans fluid can. Change the fluid and filter. DO NOT RUN A FLUSH THROUGH IT!! Just change the fluid and filter.

You are decribing what is typically refered to as "morning sickness". This usually means your tranny will need some work/rebuild. I would try changing the fluid/filter first to see if it helps (definitely cheaper!), but chances are it probably won't. I once had a 66 LTD that had morning sickness so bad it would stay for 5 minutes in gear before it would move!!! Good luck!

I'll drop the pan and change the fluid and filter this weekend, Since Im not doing a flush how much ATF should I buy ?

the pan drop is 3-4 quarts. Make sure you put the O-rings on the filter neck, and do not overtighten the pan bolts.

Thanks to all for your responses, I'll give a update this weekend.

low reverse is a band, what was said earlier about changing the servo should work if it leaks (have to drop the valvebody). So try the filter and fluid change first, you can also cheat and drill out the hole for reverse engagement but that will not fix the problem, it'll just mask it fairly well :D.

Does the EXP have a drain on the torque converter like my F150 ?
Is changing 3-4 quarts enough to see a difference?

Yes, it definately helps. While not a flush, many here pump a quart or so of fluid out of the cooler lines and replace with an equivalent amount. This can also help you avoid a pan drop mess, if you remove less than 2 quarts from a cooler line then drop the pan. Never let the pump run dry.

However, if your fluid is very neglected it is best to start with a pan drop/clean/change fliter and see how it goes. I would not suggest anything else for now.

But one thing, NEVER EVER do a commercial flush with chemicals. If you have any issue with the trans, this will most likely make it worse.
