so i just bought a 2001 a couple months ago, the guy I bought it from warned me, to not be hot rodding it. Anyway, I had to get on the interstate and needed to give it gas, it's like it just broke free going from third to fourth (I think), i let of the gas and it was fine.it's done this a few time where it lets go of the gear and just revs up, when I let of gas, it engages. Today, not the case, it let go of the gear, and never engaged back in. i can shift to 1st or 2nd and they work, but I havent got it fast enough since to see if i can do the drive with OD off yet. by the way, My OD light hasn't worked at all since I've had it, but button does work. Thoughts?

You might want to change the title of your thread and you may get more help. When you say "5 speed" in the car world that means a 5 speed manual transmission. Not a 5 speed automatic. I think that's because for the longest time (like maybe decades) automatic transmissions only had 3 or 4 gears and you could get manual transmissions with at least 4 gears. It took me a minute to figure out that you were actually talking about an automatic and not manual transmission.

Agreed, you need to change the title.
Have you checked the fluid? I would guess the band broke not the gears

Sounds like someone was having transmission issues before you and removed the o/d light so he could sell it to you and you wouldn't know. The o/d light will flash when there is a serious issue with the transmission.
