Hello everyone.
I have just tried the valve body replacement on my 2000 explorer, and have ran into a problem.
First I notice a slight shudder when taking off from a stop then a couple of days later, the 2-3 flare. After reading through here, it seemed that there was a good chance that the valve body should fix my problem. So, I ordered a valve body off of ebay and started on the replacement. This was supposed to be and updated valve body with the bonded gaskets and when it came in, all looked good.
After I put it in, I have reverse in 1, 2, and D, but no movement in R. I did't notice the low reverse servo being able to go in only one way, so i put it up in and in hindsight did not have it indexed right. I plan on dropping the pan again tonight to fix this, but did I damage anything by trying to move it this way? Btw, I had difficulty getting the shifter to move out of park after we buttoned it up, but I wiggled it a little and do not have any binding now. I just mention that in the interest of full disclosure in case it is needed to help diagnose.
Also, when I dropped the pan, I notice about half a dozen metal pieces about 1/16 x 1/8 in. I have never been in a transmission, so I have no idea if this is excessive or not, but it seems like it is.
If anyone could give me an idea if I need to check anything else while I am in there tonight, I would appreciate it.
Thank you all for everything you share on here. It makes it easier to work on my own car!
Mike
