Welcome to this forum! I've renamed your thread, and moved it into the transmission section. The 97 has an extra sensor that the 99 doesn't have. You could install it into the 99, but the sensor will just be disconnected. Check to see if the range sensor has the same number of wires. If not, then you might have to swap that part. As for your problem with no reverse, check the low/reverse servo, band, and reverse modulaton valve in the valve body. Sometimes it could be a problem with the shift fork in the transfer case, and not even a transmission related issue.
