Hi Y'all,

I'm new to this forum and new to the Ford Ranger. We purchased a 2003 Ranger 4X4 4dr Supercab 4.0L with 75000 miles. Everything seems to be OK with the truck except the 1st to 2nd shift is quite hard, and there doesn't seem to be any 1st gear coast braking when 1 is selected on the shifter. All other shifts are smooth and no slip is detected. Trans fluid is at the correct level, and is "red" with no burnt smell. I have removed the battery cable to allow the tranny to reprogam with no change. Since it's a used vehicle I don't know if the fluid and filter have been changed, and plan to do that, but would like to know your thoughts on the problem before I drop the pan. I might need to do more once inside. BTW, the tranny has a fill tube and dipstick, so from info on this forum, I am assuming it is a 5R55E. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Jim

I replace valve body and fixed my 1-2 shift...

There are several listings in the forum about this 1-2 problem

jrboatin,

Many thanks for the reply. Did you get your valve body from Ford or somone else?

Jim

I wouldn't go to ford, Most likely cheaper even from advance, AZ, napa or somewhere of that nature. I believe there is a how to on here about it that will most likely say where they got their parts from.

Hope my advice helps. I may take a vehicle to ford once a year for a basic oil change just to get there inspection and free car wash :)

Currency,

Thanks for the reply. I'll see what I can find. I deidn't really want togo to Ford.
