I have a 1998 sohc 4X4 with a 5r55e transmission. My tranny worked fine until
I had an engine swap done. I replaced it with another SOHC. After the swap I noticed that it would not go into overdrive. It is turning at 3k rpm at 60. The check engine code is p1762. My tranny does have 260K miles on it but, I never had trouble until the engine swap. I'm wondering if that had something to do with it. The fluid is fine. right color and amount.

The o/d light is not blinking. Also when I push the overdrive button it does not respond. It also ****fts very weak. I am going to try a band adjustment first and go from there. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Also could the engine swap have caused this?

I have the EXACT same thing going on. Same code too. I removed and reinstalled my engine to fix some leaks. Going to check into the transmission harness connector and clean out the ecu connector. Please post if you figure anything out.

Thanks for the reply Airbeast. Checking the connections is a good idea. I'm going to do that and do a band adjustment in a few days. I will post my results. Keep me posted if you figure it out.

Band adjustment is good but it won't be the fix since 2nd works. Which is the same overdrive band. I adjusted my bands.

I'm still having this problem with my transmission. It is skipping 2nd and not going into 5th. I have tried a band adjustment to no avail. I'm thinking now either I need to check the valve body or the o/d servo.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. I need to get his fixed so I can pass
my state auto inspection.

I solved mine. After having the valve body apart, I put one of the checkballs in the wrong place. Shifts perfectly now.

Thanks for the update! I haven't fixed mine yet. This weekend i'm going to finally drop the pan and check out the valve body. I've tried just about everything else. Congrats on solving your problem.

Ive had this issue for some time now and so far have swapped out all 4 shift solenoids and the issue still remains. can someone give me some info on band adjustment? I was told previously that the bands "cant" be adjusted.. apparently that was wrong considering ive read of others adjusting them. thanks
