Hey guys. I swapped in a 5R55E into my Ranger. It had 130,000kms and a mystery past. But it was cheap :D Anyways it bolted in and it drives! (step up from my blown 4r55e). But it isn't perfects so I have a few questions:

First...it flares between shifts. Mostly 2-3 which leads me to believe it is a EPC solendoid. I only drove it a bit but I think it may flare a bit when going into another gear. Doesn't feel sloppy tho so that is positive. How hard is it to change solenoids?

Second...it takes forever to engage into gear. When putting it into drive it takes up to 4 seconds to start driving forward. Reverse takes about 2 seconds. What is up with that? Driveline pressure? (I don't even know what that means but it seems to me to be something that may be the problem :) )

I put an oil filter in line with my tranny lines so I am hoping the fluid stays clean and may even fix some of these problems?

I was thinking of getting a CVB valve body anyways to really make this transmission last long and work good..would that fix these problems?

The solenoids in the 4R55E are electrically different than the solenoids in a 5R55E, so that could be part of the problems. Your computer is looking for the ones in a 4R55E.

Well eff. I was sure that this swap would work. Would swapping the solenoids work then?

Are you sure the 5R55E was a good trans to start with? If it was, getting a 4R55E valve body from CVBs should fix the problems but no guarantee.
If I remember correctly the EPC and the Torque converter solenoids and the separator plate and gaskets are different.

Are the 4R55E's and 5R55E's that different? I adjusted my bands and that didn't seem to help much, maybe even made things worse!! But maybe not...torque to 120 inch pounds then two turns back right? Thats what I did.

My main two problems are: flaring between shifts (mainly 2-3 but occasionally others)
Slow to engage in both reverse and forward (a good 2 seconds)

BUT...if I put it in the 2 position instead of D (follow?) then it engages almost right away!

Any help? I just want a good solid tranny

One more question. If I do get a CVB what other things should I change? In terms of gaskets and such. The tranny filter is ....on the valve body? I read about lots of things that could be a problem but I don't know how much of that stuff would be new on a CVB and how much is seperate of what I would get on a CVB. Any input is appreciated

Me again...new problem: Sometimes it drops outta 1st and acts as if it is in neutral. But if I put it in 1 instead of D then it is fine??? How does this make sense. That transmission range selector has slots for adjustment. Could this be the problem?

In manual LOW the trans uses a couple different components to apply low gear, this is probably the reason. The cable may be out of adjustment down at the trans.

Is there a guide of how to adjust it? Forward back? What does what? Haha
