So after doing a transgo kit, a new solenoid bracket, new EPC and gaskets, I have trouble getting my 2001 v-6 SOHC to engage in gear, and it seems to slip as well. torqued all VB bolts carefully to 85 inch lbs.

I did not adjust the bands, and will do so this afternoon. My question is will this affect 1st gear and reverse? From what I read, it would only seem to affect 2nd, 3rd, 4th and overdrive, NOT do anything to first gear or reverse.

When I put it in reverse or drive, it revvs up to almost 3k rpms before it starts to engage. It does seem to shift a little harder into 2nd and 3rd than it did before. At highway speeds it was slipping in 3rd and 4th as well which it did not do before.

Any suggestions? I must have done something wrong but cannot figure out what. No parts were in the pan when I dropped it.

aha! maybe..

When I removed the valve body to do the kit mods, the reverse/low servo thingie fell out. Since 1st/ reverse seems to be where the problem is, I've been looking at pictures and rings/ seals and stuff for that part.

Is there a SPRING that's supposed to go onto this rod? because I did not notice one when it fell out, and just put it back in there. If so, the solution to my problem might be laying on my buddies garage floor somewhere.

It's a 5r55e, 2001 4wd 6 cylinder SOHC. I'm also wondering if 4 quarts of fluid was to much/ not enough, didn't really get it warmed up that much and it was to dark to see the stick after I got home.

Any ideas?

about the servo spring.

If you find out if there is a spring in there let me know as the same thing happened to me today.

there is notsupposed to be a spring in there. After overfilling then siphoning 'till the fluid level was right, it did fine in 1st and reverse. It needed about six and a half quarts, not the mere four I put it. That was the root of my problems with reverse and 1st.

Band adjustments made it seem.. tighter, and the shifts are noticeably firmer, but it still flares between 2nd and 3rd. And if I don't let it warm up enough, limp mode kicks in. Probably every damn part in the tranny is just hammered on mine, has 200k unkind miles, but still rolls with the original motor and tranny, so I'm happy.
