5spd tranny swap

i have a 91 explorer eb with an auto. the tranny is kinda ruff so i was wanting to put a 5 speed in it i have an 85 ford ranger 5speed with a 2.9 the engine is blown so the truck is useless to me i was wondering how hard it will be to put that tranny in my explorer, i know the bell housing bolts line up

well.... I have a 1994 XL with a 4.0L OHV and a factory 5 speed manual (2wd). I know it's super easy to change that out ( did it 3 times with some buddies). The only thing you'll have to worry about is putting a hole in your floor for the shift knob, measuring the LENGTHS of the transmissions to assure compatability there, and the speedometer cable hookup, and neutral sensing switch... you can then do away with your cooling lines as well. Its mostly rewiring it and making sure it fits length wise.
