I want to put two more 5x7 speakers in the side panels in the back of a 04 explorer.I need some help of where would be a good place to put them. Also could I run the wires of the rear door speakers, would that effect anything?I'm doing this so my kids can hear the radio without have it up so loud.I would apprieate any suggestions.

Do you have 3rd row seating? or why are they not able to hear it? you can play with the fade so that the sound goes to the rear speakers...

If you wire them to the rear speakers that will affect the load, not sure if that can cause a problem

I would take the headphones sockets in rear controls and tap them for low output- wack it through an amp and feed the new speakers then you still have control from front and an extra pair of speakers to sound great!

I don't have headphone sockets in the back.

I'd have to go see on my truck, but maybe you can take out the cupholders (I'm sure there's one on the right side, don't remember what's there in the left side) and install some 3.5" speakers there...

can't take out the cup holders, they are for the kids drinks
maybe try to get some speakers in the back hatch like in door mounted but thats just a thought my hatch has "vents" like what would have a speaker behind it but no speakers and i haven't taken the panel off to check for mounting brackets

thanks for everyones input,I put the speakers in the back third row seating area.I put them right above the seat belts in the back.I cut a 3.25 " hole in the metal behind the panel and cut a hole in the panels and made custom speaker grills.I will have to take pics asap.

Yes pics please!

Here's some pics of the speakers I installed in the third row seating area and the custom made speaker covers, please don't hate.

Not hating it at all! that looks actually pretty good, how did you hook them up?

I hook them up to the rear door speakers and put bass blockers in.The speakers are only 3.25 so doesn't take away from rear door speakers much.So far they work good and sound sound great.

Cool!, do you have a system installed or just the stock one?
If I were to do that I'd make sure to get the grilles painted to match as close as posible to the interior, I wouldn't like it if someone was to break in to try to steal them, that's why my system is hidden hehe

The only thing I have is a ECLIPSE radio and Sirius. All the speakers are Infinity speakers,I would like to put a sub in but the custom sub boxs are a little pricy.I do plan on painting the speaker grills at a later time. Thanks for the good comment on my speaker install.

Do you have the stock sub?
here's what I have, just so you get ideas...
