6 disc changer location

Where is the best place to put a 6-disc changer in a '93 XLT? The only place I have found is in the console. Springs prevent under front seat mounting and under the rear will get crushed when putting the seats down. I would love to mount it on the ceiling between the visors, but have no clue how to attempt that. Any ideas??

I put mine In the jack compartment on the rear drivers side of the car. Sure, it's hard to get at sometimes but if no body can see it...they can't steal it! hope that helps you out! Dead Link Removed

Thanks for the tip! Did you have to remove the entire panel to do the mount? Also - Did you drill into sheet metal? I was thinking some monster velcro may do the trick. Easier to remove, but I guess easier to steal too<G>

I used a piece of that was cut to fit the inside of the pannel. it was set back into the compartment. Once I had the wood cut I then used a piece of angle iron that I bolted to the compartment and to the bottom of the piece of wood. that way it made a stable platform for the changer. after I had it securly bolted down I used to mounting hardware for the cd changer and mounted it to the piece of wood. I started off as a temporary rig job and ended up permenant. I was useing the piece of wood just for a temp solution till I could figure out something better. due to my lazy ness this never went any further. Dead Link Removed Basicly all I did was made a platform and screwed it down. If you have some velcro that may work but it may vibrate and bounce around a bit to much. don't want that to move. the cd changers these days are not made to jiggle around and it may cause your cd to skip or even the changer to get damaged. hope that helps out some.

I wouldn't recommend trying to hang your changer from the ceiling. Not enough structure there, and you'd end up wearing it if somebody ever hit you.

Console is probably the best location, it's hidden, yet accessible.

I have mounted changers with velcro with good results. I put one in my '92 Explorer behind the left rear seat, where it was hidden by the cargo cover. I used velcro so I wouldn't have to cut the carpet. Did the same thing in my '89 T-Bird SuperCoupe. Worked better in the Explorer than the 'Bird - that handling suspension was a little too stiff. The changer was staying with the carpet, but I think the carpet lifted on hard bumps, causing it to skip.

I eventually moved the Explorer changer into the console. Be aware that the damper springs in the changer have to be adjusted for vertical or horizontal mount, and, in most cases, the horizontal position is more resistant to skipping.
