7 month oil change

any experience from you guys that run mobil 1 or amsoil. i used to believe the old saying 3 months or 3,000 miles on dino oil, but now i have been running mobil 1 in my 5.0 for about 2 years. i put on about 3,000 miles every seven months. should i be changing my sythetic oil a little more frequetly. i mean if i wait 10,000 miles to change my oil it will be almost two years. anyone done an oil anylis on something like this

I think the Mobil 1 container used to say 12 months or 20k miles with regular filter changes; I took that to mean filter change every 3 to 5 k miles. We used to have annual emissions checks so you did an oil change to make sure you passed. I think some of the newer containers say 15k miles and regular filter changes. Since you add nearly a quart with every filter change and the synthetic does not break down like a petroleum/paraffin based oil would. Now if you do a lot of stop and go driving use some common sense but I have not had any problems.

Amsoil Series 2000 is a 35k miles/1 year ( whichever comes first ) oil.

I have a 5.0 Explorer and I have run a 10,000 mile, between 7-8 mo OCI once. I used Amsoil 0W-30 and an amsoil filter. No problems at all, no consumption. I had 40k on the truck when I started the oci.

I have since gone to Mobil 1 5w-30 w/Motorcraft filter and running 5k OCI. The reason? If i was going to continue to run 10k ocis I would have to run some oil analysis to see if everything was going well w/ the oil. For the same amount of money I could do an oil change, which I like to do, and not worry about testing.

But to answer your question, you should have no problem going 3k in 7 months with Synthetic oil. Heck, I say pusk it to 1 year if you are driving that few miles. Just make sure you PCV valve is in good working order.

I've put about 7000 miles on my X since I've changed over to Mobile 1. My next step is to get the Amsoil BMK13 and run their series 2000 synthetic, like Aldive does.

I'd say use Mobil 1 and change it once a year. I do that with my mom's car. It has an oil life monitor but the book says to change it at minimum once a year regardless.
