Good article about spun tubes and fixes for the 8.8 Interesting reading for anyone who is running bigger tires, and hitting the trails hard, maybe even not so hard- high miles?:

http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/axle/ford8_8/

Also a thread on JU about it-I cant get it to come up now though but a search in the wrangler section should pull it up. .

Anyone experience spun tubes, or broken spot welds(rivets/pins) at the rear axle. Im going to check my old axle(160k miles) I think it had some oil leakage at the tube/pumkin weld/pin holes.

Other fix is to weld the tubes at the pumpkin the full circumference - cast iron to steel tubes is specialized welding- pre-heat , but this would be the best repair IMO - also the most costly- dollars or time if you have the skill and tools

Have Fun.

Haven't spun the axle yet, but that's a good idea too weld up the tubes.

I plan on having this done when I get my new rear bumper next weekend! I have a stick welder, but to go smoothly around the axle tubes I'll have my bumper guy use his MIG welder on it. Boy is that thing slick!!!

I'll try to remember to bring my camera along to snap some pic's!

Get some high Nickel rod, and weld the tubes. I did, and have had no problems.

Cheers
