Howdy, been a minute since I visited last, but I have a quick question. I have a '91 X Sport with the L.S. 8.8 (3.73) rearend that is... ummm... screwed. One of the friction discs has both ears snapped off, and it slips bad with very little effort. I'm going to buy a disc set from Ford, but I think someone has been inside mine before. There were 2 steels stacked right next to each other on both sides, and this doesn't seem right to me. Does anyone know the proper sequence to stack the frictions/steels in? I'm assuming they just alternate, but from the gear, is it friction first, or steel first? Also, will the carbon fiber disc kit for the '03- '05 SVT Mustang 8.8 fit my X? I spend a lot of time crawlin around on trails, and want something with a little more "grab". It says it will fit all 8.8 rearends, but I wanna be sure before I spend $130 on it. Thanx!!!

The 8.8 LS were stacked with 2 steels side by side, a common practice is rearranging the clutches and steels in an alternating fashion to grab better. For off-roading though I personally wouldn't bother with the LS, off-road they don't do much.

Thanks for the quick reply, so this setup was stock apparently??? I'm not expecting locker performance, but this thing will light up one tire in a friggin mud puddle. lol Do you know anything about the Mustang kit?

To change the order to clutc/spring/clutch/spring etc you will need one extra clutch disc.. usually you keep the best from your old set.

I have a trac-lok for the dana 35 that I'm going to rebuild and install with the extra pack.. I'm not worried about it wearing out so fast since its on the front, but in the rear it would wear out faster...

Right on... yeah, I've got a few decent ones from the old set. So I'd probably be better off going with the stock repl. kit instead of the Rustang setup. The only thing is, the carbon fiber kit comes with a new S-Spring, the stocker doesn't. With 300K on mine, it probably could use a new spring. I'm mostly in mud and sand, never really lift a tire, so it should hold up reasonably well for that setup. Like I said, I'm not expecting magic, just a little better than stock.
