8 lug explorer??

i saw an X today with the cap taken off of the lugs... it was 8 lugs? i counted 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8...... and i counted again 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..??? and then i counted again 1........2.......3........4.......5.......6........7.......8...
No matter how many times i counted i got 8 lugs? WTF?? i then went to the eye doctor, made sure i had not smoked anything or drank too much lately.. then i went back to the parking lot on break and counted again 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8. i was bewilderd and stayed at the parking lot by this freak mutant X and waited for the owner to come out.. i waited 3 hours past quit time and gave up. tommorrow ill see if its there again and leave my email on the window... this has got me interested, anyone else seen this?

Was it lifted up with larger tires or did it just look like your every day Explorer? If it was lifted up with larger tires, they probably swapped the axles.

No it was not lifted.. and no thats impossible it had original stock wheels... ppsssttt (they are not 8 lug)

You said it had stock wheels. How could it have stock wheels and 8 lugs? My guess is it was wheel adapter, 5 lug to 8 lug, and some sort of aftermarket wheel. Or it was a stock wheel that had been doctored.

Thats what i was thinking... yet when work was over i pulled my X up to it and studied both wheels.. they were almost identical.. besides the 3 extra lugs. it didnt even seem to look right? and why have 8 lugs on a truck that is not lifted and is not going to cary heavy workloads like a truck?... weird

My cousins Dodge Dakota as 6 lugs, while my friends full-size 4x4 RAM only has 5, weird!

duhhh! his doge dakota probably is a work truck with 6, thats not uncommon, and the 4x4 ram with 5 probably is not heavy duty.. they come with 8.

nope,
the dakota is a standard quadcab with V6
the ram is a Sport 4x4 V8

every dakota I have seen has 6 lugs.
my neighbors standard cab 4x4 has 6 lug.

most newer (1997+) dakotas have 6-lug..i had a buddy wit ha 2000 x-cab slt and he has 6-lug. likewise, non-hd rams 1994+ i think have 5-lug D44 i think and the HD are 8-lug, D60, i think. i know my girlfriends dad has a 96x-cab longbed 2WD with 5-lug and those rims were on almost all non-hd rams until the new body came out.

Every Dakota has had 6 lug, I believe. If not the first gens, then when they did the major body change. My 98 had 6, my friends 00 had 6, and I believe his 94 also had 6. Rams came stock with 5, or 8 with the HD stuff.

Kinda like the early 90s Mustang came with 4, and my moms 89 Taurus has 5, hehehe....

how he got his 2000 was because he wrecked his 95 dakota sport..it had 5 lugs. the body change and rim change was in '97. old mustangs had the 4x100 bolt pattern, same as lincoln mark 8s of the era and t-bird/cougars as well as escorts and contours. the stang changed with the body change in 94 to the 5x4.5 that we all know and love. as for the rest, some like the mark 8 and t-bird changed too i think, because thy all ran the ford 8.8 so it just made sence. as for the contour and escort...still 4x100. the contour stopped prod in 2000.

uhh... my 89 t-bird had 5-lug (first year of new body style), and my buddy's 86 cougar had 5-lug as well. no idea on the escorts and ford contour/ mercury mistake however.

my girlfriends bro had an 88 bird with 4-lug and so do many of my old hs chums that had old (late 80s) tbirds. i thinnk your right, they changed with the body style, but i know his 88 had 4x100 and that was factory..88 turbo coupe

JHAHAHAHAH, i can bring closure to this madness.. i saw the freak mutant Xploder today and went to grab my camera when the owner came out.. i asked him! and sure enough it was aftermarket shiat.. SAS in the front 8 lug dana 60? i think he said 60 in the rear.. anyway i told him about this site and he said that he was going to check it out asap, hes a big Xplorer enthusiest so cool.. pace out.
