Pretty much any full synthetic (Mobil1, Amsoil) is gonna be ok (no blends), filters.. I use motorcraft. I would stay with stock plugs and wires.
Might add: Front and rear differential fluid changes - transfercase fluid change - Serpentine belt check/change - check front and rear brakes along with your flush - rotate the tires - check power steering fluid. I think that should cover it

Thanks for the belt suggestion...

All Transmission fluids were done MARCH 09'

Fuel Pump replaced MARCH 09'

Pads / Rotors replaced March 09'

Well, my tune up issue has been decided and will be taken care of for free lol...

Im a career EMT/Firefighter... so today i was @ work, and we were dispatched to my next door neighbors mechanic shop. his son was goofin around on his dirtbike on the property and tryed to pop a wheelie from a dead stop and just cruise at a few mph... well he had to much throttle and popped the clutch and went straight back and hit his head... thankfully my next door neighbor will be ok just had a nice lump on his head, but my neighbor said instead of giving me a discount on a tune up. he is gonna do it for FREE, for taken care of his son, which is awesome !

here's what im having done for FREE...

Synthetic Motor Oil

Plugs / Wires

Serpentine Belt

Brake Fluid Flush / Change

Coolant System Flush / Change

Tire Rotation

Hoses ( replaced if needed )

Fuel Filter

That's not too shabby, if you were going to a shop in the first place you just saved around $400. You asked at first what may be missing on your list, don't forget a fuel injection service. Should be done every 40,000 in my opinion, giving the shop has the real machine and not just a glorified fuel additive. The vehical runs completly off the machine and it cleans fuel lines, rails, injectors, pistons, valves and intake. If you have never had it done it'll gain fuel milage. Power steering flush also. O2 sensors are in theory a tune item but that'll get expensive and that's why people wait till there is a problem first because some of the heated ones are over $100 a pop and most newer vehicles have pre-cat and post-cat O2 sensors. Anyhow, sounds like you're getting the most important tune up items replaced already.

yea i def cant complain for free lol

ive never heard of this fuel injector machine you were talking about... i put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner once every month but thats it... where would i look for a machine like that ????

You don't want to buy the machine they cost thousands but any auto shop worth it's wrench should have one and we charged $150.00 at the last dealership I worked at. The shop before that we charged $170.00. Well worth your money though if you have never had it done to that vehicle. I've never worked at a shop that didn't have a fuel injection service machine so ask your technician if they have one and if so he'll tell all about what they do. Remember though the actual machine doesn't just go in the fuel rail and mix with the fuel in your trucks tank it bypasses your fuel tank and pump because the machine has it's own tank and pump and the chemical, which name escapes at the moment, is what works so good.

go to autoparts store and get a can of seafoam... works wonders

1/3 can in tank of gas
1/3 can in oil
1/3 can through a vacume like

my truck idled alot better and just ran better overall

Lifted93 i will ask my neighbor about it... thanks fella !

i heard seafoaming the engine is hit or miss... sometimes a good result, sometimes a bad thing...

Why put garbage in a motor that's perfectly fine

You are on the money caldwell, I can tell you are the kind of guy who takes care of your truck. Don't waste your money on that other garbage it will not give you the same results or even possibly a headache with a rig that was in great shape before. A injection service is the one thing that will give your truck a smoother idle, better throttle response, better fuel milage and power. I should say, it will restore it to like when it was new and a plus, I personally have done somewhere over 200 of them without a hitch, like a blown motor a month later like some of the cheap adatives parts stores sell can do. Just make sure that the oil is changed after the service not before and some shops clean the intake with the gas/solution mix and some think it's not a good idea. Look inside a intake with 60k plus and there will be significant carbon deposits, spraying the solution and using a brush will do actual wonders. We would spray it in and roll the motor over to suck it into the valves and cylinders and let sit until the machine was done with it's first cycle which is performed with the engine off (20 minutes). Then we would start the second cycle (also 20 minutes) with the engine running. When you start the engine for the last cycle it will smoke until it burns all the left over carbon out, how bad depends on how dirty the intake, valves and pistons were, then it'll stop smoking. You and your tech will make the call on whether or not to spray into the intake since on the newer vehicles with plastic plennums it can be bad to leave the solution in too long. I've never had a problem though. Sorry this is so long, I'm just telling all the steps so you can see why adatives can't hold a candle to the real service. The biggest reason they don't compare is the machine cleans by pulling crap out on the first cycle then pushing through, like under normal conditions, on the second cycle.

As far as the oil change goes. I use a Purolator PureOne filter on my truck. I've done countless hours reading about comparisons on oil filters and IMHO this is the best oil filter currently on the market for a daily driven vehicle.

I also reccomend using Walmart's house brand oil. I use SuperTech Full-Synthetic. $21 plus tax for 6 quarts of oil around here. The oil is re-packaged under the SuperTech name, but its actually the same as other big names like Castrol, Shell, Penzoil, Quaker State, etc. Good quality oil. Ran it in 3 vehicles now with 10k+ oil change intervals and not 1 problem. Just make sure to check the level.

Do not use penzoil, seen to many motors full of sludge from customers who swore by penzoil. From valve covers full of sludge to pickup screens for the oil pump clogged, not a good thing to have clogged. Of course any motor will develop sludge deposits if the PCV isn't changed at regular intervals.

since i have had my X i have been running CASTROL... and was going to go with a CASTROL synthetic unless there is better out there...

I like castrol, been running it in my rigs for years and I've never had a problem with sludge. I've never used castrol synthetic but I'm sure it's a good quality. Come to think about it I've never used any synthetic oil. Every 3,000 I change my oil with castrol and add a bottle of STP oil treatment and I don't do the stop and go traffic I guess I'm lucky. Sometimes I add some Lucas to my oil instead of STP but they are both like 90w140 gear oil so maybe that's why I only get 13MPG.

How about Motorcraft oil? It has been in my 02 mounty the last near 70000 miles no problems that I know of. I am going to run it in my 08 we jsut bought too. I also use Motorcraft filters too. The oil says "semi-synthetic" and is cheaper than say havoline. I ran it in my old blazer I had too probably 80000 or so mile with 0 problems as well.

STU

I believe that all of motorcrafts oil, filters and tune parts are good to go. I will not run any plug other than motorcraft. Reason is that I am not willing to spend $7 or more per plug just to get a miss fire when the motorcraft plugs are less $2 each with no issues. In my opinion motorcraft tune parts are second to none as far as price vs function goes, for a ford. So to answer your question, yes I think motorcraft is a good oil to run.

Well, my tune up issue has been decided and will be taken care of for free lol...

Off-topic, but I wanted to say thank you for doing what you do!!! Here in Tulsa, we have had a ton of lay-offs with the police department and fire department... we'll undoubtedly feel it very quickly.

Glad you ran into someone who appreciates what you do and is offering such a great deal!

well the tune up is now on hold... since i wrecked my X in this fantastic snow blast were getting in the philly area...

so thats going on hold or i may have to get a new vehicle... I smashed the B-POST really good and did a good amount of body damage, and possibly may have torqued the frame... unknown what the total damage is.. prob wont find out till about monday or tuesday...

so yea im O.O.S at the moment...

Oh no that's no good!!! Glad you're OK though!
