Just got an 84 bronco II with 2.8 engine, 5 speed, 4x4. The problem is it has slow acceleration. I have replaced plugs , rotor , cap and egr valve. All this helped. This has the calif. emissions set up. According to the tag it is supposed to be timed at 14* BTDC but the pully only has 2 marks on it and no numbers. Also it says to unplug the signal black wire by the distributor before timing it? What freaking black wire?
any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is just a shot in the dark, but it says signal. Is there some kind of black wire that is going close to the crank pulley that would pick up a signal from the spinning pully?

says the signal black wire is by the distributor, so thats in the rear and the crank pulley is in the front?

I solved the problem, it was the pickup in the distributor. Replaced the distributor and it runs 100% better. No hesitation , all go!
