- 87 Ranger Manual.
I have and 87, 2.9 manual gas hog. it idles alright with an intermittent miss and loves to dump out black smoke when you romp on it and you can get kinda high on the fumes it emits....
So far have done
Plugs,
Wires
Cap + Rotor
Removed 2nd cat "cleaned" first cat
new fuel pumps
new fuel filter
Notes.
When we changed plugs and wires we noted that the distributor was loose, as in loose enough to move back and forth on its own :x
We "timed" it by ear so maybe she is slightly out of time but idk because them ponies have no problem galloping when you feed her the go go juice...
Idle is pretty smooth with an intermittent miss or lope.
We changed a dry rotted vacuum line on that went to what im assuming is the FPR and that seemed to make a big difference in the smell and the smoke, now the smoke is semi clear but still comes out black when the motor is put under a load, or revved up but the smell isnt nearly as nauseating as it was previously, i have checked the other vacuum lines but they are on those crappy plastic lines, and still in alright condition.
as i said the truck does not lack for power, in fact when i jumped on it earlier the azz end kicked out a bit and scared the crap out of me a little since i was traveling around a few other vehicles but no one was in danger.
I do want to figure out this issue though as it seems to be affecting the gas usage, as in we went from getting around 200 a tank (which i understand is about the best you can expect from a 2.9) to a little less than 70
:thumbdwn:
(12 gallon tank)
Any comments, suggestions would be great, I have asked all over but not many responses
