88 ranger
I have a problem with my 88 ranger. its 2wd with the 2.9 ltr auto in it.
I have it set up for prerunner, and i am taken just about everything i can out of it... as far as dash board, air, heaters, things of that nature.
I am having a problem with it stayen running though seems to be a fuel issue.
I put a new fuel filter in it. i have removed the inertia switch. from my understanding its just a small little connection effect by a hard hit (i.e. a crash) that opens the connection. so i just cut the wires and spliced them together so the connection is always closed.
it didnt seem to effect the problem. for the better or for the good. SO do i have a different problem . a bad ground..it seems to be a spontaious problem. with no real causes that i can see.
i am guessing it has to do somthin gwith the fuel sending circut. what else can i check...
i need help! :)

ok somthing to add...i dont have the dash board in it. so the tac isnt hooked up..does this make a difference?

if i send 12v to the inertia switch i here pump noise..if i dont send the 12v via the inertia switch i here no pump noise.. aka everything past the inertia switch works ok.
So my question is now were are thease relays..i cant seam to find them anywhere..
and chilton doesnt say ish.
:( HELP!

Don't regularly visit this forum, so I didn't see your post. Anyway, as you requested, I looked up your post. You say it feels like a fuel issue. The first thing I would do if I suspected a fuel issue would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and see if it is a fuel issue. Glacier has posted a nice little fuel pressure mini-diary at the top of the Under the Hood forum.

Also, don't neglect pulling codes. Everytime my TFI module has acted up, it felt for all the world like it was running out of gas.

thanks mr shorty, i think i found the culprite today. bad relay. I also noticed i had a problem with my ignition switch was being quircky...
plus i put a new filter...never been changed. as well as the two new rellays. and the problem is so far gone...i am doing a crap load of other work to it right now. so i am sorta curious about it but right now it starts up and runs fine.
I am currently taken all the emssions stuff as well as anything else i dont need. i am not a big ford guy its my first ford build. I have built a few toyotas, so i know the general idea of trouble shooting i just am not sure were half the stuff is on the truck. how ever with a little help and some pics of different things i started rippen all sorts of stuff from the heater core to the cruise control stuff. i am building my own gauge cluster and dashboard being this will be a prerunner strictly for beating down. any other does or donts ur more then welcome to help me out. :)

thanks for the help though..
