89 ranger 2.9 to 93 explorer 4.0 swap

Hey guys, I’m just curious if it’s possible to swap out an 89 ranger 2.9 for a 93 explorer 4.0? The 4.0 had a manual tranny but it’s in another rig. The tranny in the ranger is also a manual. Would thaws bolt up? Im new to the swapping **** so I’m just curious if this could work.

The 4.0 is a common swap in place of the 2.9. The 2.9 transmission will bolt up to the 4.0 but it is not as strong as the 4.0 version though.

the 89 ranger 5 speed will bolt up to the 93 4.0 yes
But it is not recommended most of the time
The 89 5 speed can be a mazda or a mitsubishi, behind the 2.9 they had weird gearing and were not very strong.
but yes it will bolt up

4.0 is a nice upgrade from the 2.9L as in the 2.9 never should have gone into a truck!!! whereas the 4.0 is perfect for the truck
