My neighbor came over last night to get some help with his Expedition, I know it is not an explorer but figured some of you guys have or worked on them. So here goes- He replaced his rear differential w/ a junk yard piece.
The pinion nut was missing ( no clue why he even bought it that way)
All the local parts stores ( even NAPA) have given him a coarse thread nut
and his pinion shaft is definitely fine thread. I have done some checking around and do not see more than one option from various vendors.
Anybody have a clue why he has fine threads but all the nuts come coarse?
Or does anybody have a fine thread pinion nut for a 9.75 rearend?

well.....he needs to go back to the yard and get his nuts....!!!!!!! haha

pinion nuts are very individual, and that's his mistake.

just go back to the yard and say "I never got my nuts" lmaoo (sorry)

good luck, everything should be A-ok

I have never seen a pinion gear with a coarse thread on it's stub. imp

Well I picked up a nut from O'Reillys last night looked at it and it had fine threads so I thought all was well. Took it to him and crawled under his ride,
NO GO. his is like a super fine thread. The yard he got the differential from
is a joke. They sold it as is and "wont pull a nut from a good differential, cause then its junk" (right like the one they sold him!) I've got no clue what
the deal is and my plate is full getting ready for winter, so he's on his own.
