Hello everyone. I'm trying to convert my 91 Explorer to manual transfer case. The problem I have is all the junk yards remove the transfer case without removing the shifter/linkage. They put the transfer case on the shelf then crush the truck without removing the shifter. Therefore I have the transfer case, but can't find the shifter stuff.
I have located one yard and they tell me they have just the shifter without the linkage.
Does anyone have a picture of all the pieces of the shifter/linkage ?

I have just the linkage shifter and boots if you need one
In your 91 stick or auto ?

Good info here including pics of linkage

I’ve had the same issue in the past… the t case shifter is bolted to the tailhousing of the transmission, so you can ask to see the transmission that came from the vehicle with the manual case and sometimes the linkage is still there. You will want the bolts the big bolt is one of the hard parts to get your hands on

So do I understand you correct ? You say you have the linkage and shifter, or just the shifter ?
My 91 Explorer is a stick shift/5 speed.

I have a shifter and linkage yes
We collect these transfer cases and the shifters. I have a couple of extra shifters
I will get my box of shifters and boots down and have a look at my parts.

Y'all are not going to believe this. But I just got the dual shifter/floor plate, shifter/linkage and bolt for $90 shipped !
WOW !
I called every junk yard on car-part.com and found one lucky yard.
I can't believe it.

This is what I bought.
It looks like yours has a vent hose.

I don't know how they pulled the shifter knob off. The last time I tried to take the one off my Bronco II I ended up messing up the plastic. They got this one off perfect.

Put crescent wrench under knob and smack
Upwards with hammer… they come off

Glued on from factory
$90 not bad w the boots!

That cam does not go in there. It wont hurt anything, the big bolt just holds the bracket to the trans the smaller bolt actually has a little adjustment built in (bracket is slotted so you can fine tune the gate stop for 4hi)

The t case vent hose is simply holding place by the bracket…
Your t case will already have a vent hose

Those boots are the hard part to find there are several versions depending on year of ranger

I know supply and demand can determine cost, so I'll throw this out there. I had someone else with just the shifter & linkage for sale and he wanted $250. That didn't include the floor plate, big bolt, or the boot.
I also found another junk yard that only had the shifter, without the linkage, or boot. They wanted $90 for just the shifter alone.
Both of those included shipping.
EDIT: This is a long term project, so I've been looking every so often for several years. I've probably contacted 100 junk yards in the last several years trying to find this stuff. Take this bit of info and weigh your options.

The fx4 level 2 chrome bezel and shifter boots is what fetches the big $$$ on these

We sell the manual case for $4-800 and always include the shifter and whatever boots bezel we can provide

I bought the transfer case in 2018 for $75, only because it had been on the shelf so long he marked it down half price.
So, ever since 2018 I've gone to car-part.com and searched manual transfer case vehicles. I would go down the list and email, or call every junk yard. That said, 99.25% of every yard I contacted said they already crushed the truck and they just had the t-case on the shelf. I wasn't really hurting for the parts, because my push button and clutch were still working. I knew at someone point the clutch would need to be replaced and wanted the parts for when the time came. Just recently the clutch and push button stopped working, both at the same time. I'm really lucky that things worked out the way they have.

Something else I just found out. Another member said the linkage from a FM146 can be made to work if you have a vise and bend the arm. He also said you need a grinder to notch the cut out about 1/4" inch.
