hey guys,

i was installing a pioneer deck in my mom's 91 mazda navajo. i was taking a speaker out and noticed that she had premium sound, but it was to late, i had already cut the premium sound connector and i was gonna try to wire everything straight up.

so my question is, would it be possible to twist the wires back together and tape everything back up? does anybody know if that is do-able? i still have the premium connector, and i know i basically need to get and amp bypass to get it working. if i can't get the premium connector wired back on, can i just match the wires up and use everything like normal after i bypass the amp?

thanks in advance,

jason

Your best bet would be to solder the wires back together and use some heat shrink, it's really easy and will guarentee a quality connection. In other words, yes you can put the wires back together. Just a FYI; for some reason the Pioneer decks do not require the factory amp to be bypassed if you do not wish but all others will require it.

Not totally true!!! My Navjo had premium sound and did not require an amp bypass when using a Blaupunkt head unit (45watts x 4 channels). The amp in the vehicle is designed to accept speaker level inputs and includes amplified power from your head unit. Check with your local stereo shop and get the correct adapter (head unit to wiring harness) to plug in to the stock wiring harness. Should be about 3/4" square with the wires to be connected to the speaker level outputs of your head unit. If you can't find one I'll ship you the extra one I've got if you pay for the ride!!

That's good to know. I have only heard of the Pioneer's working well with the stock amps.

i'm pretty sure the amp is dead.

me and my dad tried every possible combination of wires that we exposed by cutting off the square connector.

i still have the connector but i took the metal off it, anybody think that will hurt? it's all plastic now.

anyway, i was thinking about just bypassing the amp and then trying to wire it up, but i had one extra idea.

basically all 8 speaker wires (+,-) will go into the amp, then another plug will come out the other side and go to the head unit. so what if i just run new speaker wire from the speaker plug up to the head unit? seems like it'd be a lot easier than resoldering the entire connection in that cramped space.

that's probably what i'll do if you guys think it'll work.

i would just run new wire from all the speakers to the HU..although it can be kind of tidious in a car that has nice interior or complicated intirior...my car just has a carpet 2 seats and a cup holder =) takes about 5 mins or a good fart to get all the interior out

good luck with the install
