All about a year ago, my 91' explorer w/ the 4.0 liter had coolant dumping into my oil at 97,000 miles. After changing the intake gaskets, that didn't fix it, so I went ahead with new heads and head gaskets. (Brand new heads from Florida shop 175 a piece, other parts from oreilly auto) I hope it was the heads, my compression passed except one or two cylinders tested different but still had over 100 psi. I believe 160 was about right. NO signs of coolant in my exhaust, ONLY went into the oil. Anyway after the re-build.....
There's a noise in the engine that's definitely not good, but I've put over 10,000 miles on it since the re-build. It's the worst at highway speeds, when I let up on the gas it knocks/ sorta reminds me of a diesel....And as soon as I accelerate the noise goes away! It's just fine accelerating, but anytime I let up on the gas it has that clunkering. Maintaining a constant 70mph will reveal the noise the whole time.
The one thing I noticed, there's usually a small amount of metal that shows up on my dip stick. I figure she'll blow up some day, just hopefully not during final exam week because I don't wanna be taring engines apart that week!! Anyone know what's going on???
