i need advice ASAP ill explain later, driving 5200 k round trip, 650 k from home
drive a 2000 ex 4l eddie with 234000 km the tranny fluid was good when i left it started struggling with shifting 200 km ago the fluid is up but now burnt and the rpms are at 22 - 27 im pulling a 6x12 trailer with a sled and some stuff note the truck is sagging will that effect the fluid level, so question is can i get the fluid changed in the states to get me home, or should i do a full service, time is of the essence to get home

I mean, you can get a tranny service and hope for the best. Had the same issue with my old car, the damage was done. New fluid didn't help shifts or slipping. I drove it for months with cronic shifting issues though.

I certainly would take it in to a local shop rather than drive it. May work, may not. Also, the sagging wouldn't affect the fluid level that much. If its in the "ok" area with the tranny warm you are good there.

do an immediate trans oil and filter change. consider a friction modifer as well.

turn overdrive off and keep the speed down to 55mph.

650k (403 Miles) is a long way to go on a bad trans. However, if it's an emergency, you may be able to make it. Please don't take this as an absolute, as I have no way of knowing just how bad your trans is. Make sure you inspect the pan when you take it off for metal debris or even parts laying there. If it's full of metal shavings, or parts, Stop. You'll need a major repair. If it's just burnt fluid, you might be able to make it with just a refill. Does your Ex have the tow package, and do you have overdrive turned off while you're towing?

My $0.02:

Find an auto parts store somewhere. Unhook the trailer (lock it up and/or have some1 stay near it). Check the fuel level and make sure its at the top (buy ATF if it needs it). Drive it around without the trailer and see if it still struggles.

my o/d light isnt working i read months ago about it, steering column fuse etc, the truck is in good shape i'm not beating it up i hope, cruising on avg 50 -60 mph
real hilly through mn and ws im heading to sask canada

If you can, choose routes that arent as hilly - take roads that are flatter.

honestly youve probally already done damage but id still change the fluid and filter asap a few years ago i was pulling a similar sized trailer thru the states with a Dodge 150 same thing happened going thru some hilly sections, changing the filter and fluid helped me limp home but the tranhy was toast the cooler wasnt sufficient for towing

thanks for the advice i was very nervous with winter conditions and all
id like to thank the guys at CROSS ROADS REPAIR in JAMESTOWN ND
randy did the work, they let me watch every move he missed his coffee time and lunch he went around his work very efficiently and even took the truck he was working on off the lift to get me in.
i had them install a leaf spring helper kit NAPA $51.00 lifted my ex from 30" loaded to 34" loaded what a difference randy noticed my sag and suggested them on in 10 mins
anyway trany flush and fill / filter made the run with ZERO concerns ran like a champ.

randy and i were stunned with what we found in the pan remember the x has 236000 km on her, there was nothing in the pan
the fluid was scortched and stunk
i ran on cruise most of the way home at 100km where before it was shifting down on the slightest grade
randy saw i have an antifreeze leak at the intake on top of the motor, he said 4 hrs to fix it plus parts etc he said its leaking out not in which is good any one have any experience with this

i know, but my o/d button or light isnt working, i push the button nothing happens no increase in rpm i took the column apart all is fine checked fuse etc ay thoughts

Glad to hear you found a friendly mechanic. A lot of times they will rip someone off thats from out of town because they know the driver has little choice.
