First off,
Hello all.
I am new to this forum, but I have been a fan of the 93 ford explorer for many years. I have had 2 1993 explorers both 4wd auto's. I had nothing but good luck with them.

Now I currently have a 93 2dr sport 2wd with a 5speed. I am currently in the process of changing the head gaskets and have come to a road block. I have searched the forums and came up with no answer...

What size are the torque bits for the head bolts? Are the bolts reusable? Do they make a hex head replacement?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JayJay

Its a t55 Torx.. and they are Torque to Yield bolts.. you need to replace them. I have not found hex replacments, but since I got a t55 socket it has never bothered me again.

Figures.. the only size I don't have.. I will plan on buying new head bolts. Locally they are 39.99 in stock at auto zone. While I''m there I'll have to buy a T55.

Once done with the head gasket I'll get on to the returning the front end back to stock ride height.

Not sure if your gonna only need head gaskets, or a head gasket set.. But a pair of head gaskets is about $80.. and that was just for head gaskets (I didn't need all of the gaskets when installed the heads last Sunday)..

On top of that.. only 2 autozones in town had just the head gaskets..

I have already purchased a full felpro set. Cost me $42.

I went kinda expensive when I rebuilt my motor (gasket wisse).. I used Ford lower intake gasket and Ford valve cover gaskets ($80 or so for all 3).. Then when I had to pull my heads again (< 300 miles after the rebuild) I was able to use my old intake and valve cover gaskets..

I never looked at the price of a full kit.. might have been cheaper than just the head gaskets..

I bought the full felpro kit it cost $105. All gaskets included including the oil and injector seals. I canned the cork gaskets and bought the felp rubberized ones for the valve covers.

The kit also comes with black RTV for the corners and the front and bak galleries. I used the red stuff I already have at the house.

for sure..

I would have paid that much. But, I got this set from a friend that gave up on his rebuild. He just wanted to clear out some spave on his shelves.. I gave him pretty much all the money I had in my pockets..LOL
