hi, nice forum you've guys got here.. anywhoo onto my problem.
every time I put my explorer into drive it won't shift out of first gear until about redline, but once it's out of first it shifts fine through the rest of the gears. if I come to a complete stop it doesn't go back into first (unless I manually put it there) it acts as though 2 is 1st gear and just takes off from there. I can manually shift it fine.. like say I get in, put it in D, start to take off get to about 2-3k rpms than shift it into 2 and it will go right in, smooth engagement, than get up to about 35mph and shift it into D than it's fine for the rest of the time. if I shift into D/OD before 30-35 than it kicks back down into first. I know I wrote that kind of confusing but that's the best way I can think to describe it.. I was leaning towards maybe a valve body rebuild might fix it?
oh! the owner before me (I bought it with teh shift problem) blew a tranny line on it and said it's shifted like that ever since then, he replaced the tranny line with fuel line, than I replaced it after I got it with some higher pressure clutch/brake line. the fluid is newer and the older fluid didn't smell burnt or anything.. there's no slippage in the trans and all gears engage fine, it's just the 1-2 shift. I'd appreciate any and all help! thanks in advance!
Ryan.
