Well the other day i went to start up my truck and i noticed my cd player was off, so i turned it on and all the presets were gone. Kind of like the battery was disconnected. I didn't think that much of it till i parked the truck ran into the store came out and tried to start the truck and got nothing but a click. tried a again a couple of clicks stopped. Tried a 3rd time and it started right up with no clicks, but the same thing my cd player had reset.

Well got it home and tried to start and all was fine. So immediately this sounds like a bad connection at the battery. Poped he hood and there was not much corrosion on the terminals. I was gone for a couple days so i didnt have time to do anything with the truck, so anyway i just went out there tried to start couldnt get it to start just a few clicks and the lights were very dim like dead. So i just disconnected the battery cleaned up the terminals and sprayed some protector and re-connected the cables and it starts right up. Just took it out and it has started flawlessly the past 3 times.

Now rewind last december when i bought the truck. The truck needed a starter but it also still had problems starting it would just click really fast and sometimes just click once. The battery post terminals were in bad shape so i had replaced both the pos and neg terminals.

I think i read awhile back that it was common for the battery cables to corrode from the inside out? Hard to tell. There is some corrosion on the wires, most the visable stuff i was able to get off.

It sounds like the cables are my problem. So do they make replacement cables or do i need to cut to length and find the right gauge wire ect.?

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Thanks
-Steve

It sounds like you are on the right track with the corrosion issue. You should not have to cut your own cables. Take the old ones off and take them to any decent auto parts store and they should be able to match them up. Try and refrain from cutting/splicing anything as that just introduces the possibility for additional corrision.

Get yourself some new cables. I got mine from directfordparts.com -- they have all of the correct connections (of which there are several).

Some people say they have found these at NAPA, but I haven't checked there myself. I did try Advance and Autozone -- zip.

Went out to start the truck this morning and it wouldnt start. Disconnected the battery and reconnected and got it to start. Sounds like the cables are my problem. Autozone says they have the pos battery cable on there site its part#07765. Advanced and Carquest didnt have anything.

Does directfordparts.com include only the single cable or all the smaller misc cables. I think there is 4 ground cables and 4 pos. Just 1 thick ground and 1 thick starter cable though the rest are a lot smaller in size.

$74 is a little pricey for some cables, i would hope they would be a direct fit. Id hate to spend that much to have to do all kinds of splicing and trimming. How quick was there shipping if you can remember?

How was the installation for you? Pretty straight forward?

Thanks.

I looked at that Autozone cable #07765 on the website.

That's just a cable end you'd have to splice in and it wouldn't solve your problem. Just buy the Ford cable. It has ALL the right cables and connections, and there are several. Installation is straightforward -- absolutely no splicing, though the job does take a little while; you'll have to work above and beneath your truck -- but when it's done it's good for another 15 years or so! :)

Shipping was pretty quick. I just got the standard shipping and it took I think 3-4 days. They are in Las Vegas, I am in Alabama.

The cost may seem a little high but the cables are fine quality and the job will be done right.

Oh, and use dielectric grease on all your connections. You can get that at Autozone.

Great, i appreciate it. I just went ahead and ordered the cables. Hopefully that will solve my problem.

Just got the cables yesterday. VERY impressed with them. They are...well direct ford factory cables. Shrink raped, all correct plug ends. Should be a very straightforward installation. Thanks!

Beautiful, aren't they? I always advise people on this site to get the Ford cables. I replaced mine last summer because of the same issues you reported...problem fixed.:us:

Glad to hear you got your cables. It just makes the job go so much easier.

When you go to replace them (if you haven't already), take that opportunity to give the area under your battery a good scrubbing.
