I am getting ready to replace the front rotors on my '93 4x4 Explorer with ABS. Ford wants something in the neighborhood of $150 - $175 each. I have been checking out some of the aftermarket suppliers, who seem cheaper.
However, some of them want to know what the gear ratio is for the rotor, and some don't specify the rear end ratio. Does the rear end ratio really matter when replacing the front rotors?? My Explorer has the D4 rear end, 3.73 limited slip.

HAHA, I went through the same issue with mine. Supposedly the rotors are different according to axle ratio. There are two types of rotors, one for the 327/373 ratio, and one for the 350/410 ratio. I believe it has something to do with the abs ring pressed onto the rotor, Im not sure though. I know this is late, but as long as you specify the ratio is 373, then you should get the correct rotors.

OH, I actually have a better idea.....Swap to the D44 outers like I did on my 93. WAY better brakes, AND bearings, and COOLNESS. Only problem I see was to get the rear axles remachined to take the 1/2 ton 5on5.5 bolt pattern.

Its SO worth the money to do it. Oh, I started by "changing the rotors," but ended up upgrading the whole darn front axle.
