First time posting so I'm sure I will screw this up. I am replacing the intake gaskets on a 93 explorer and the replacement (Fel-Pro) is differant than the original. The original is open between the two gaskets and the replacement is one solid piece. Do I separate the gaskets or just put the whole thing on.
I had the same Q... From what I gather the OEM one has 3 separate pieces & the replacement is a single piece on the GEN 1 4.0L OHV.
ON THE GEN 2 The OEM gasket is 3 individual pieces (Moulded into the intake) and the replacement is 3 pieces (Same---as well as an single piece "lower intake-fuel rail gasket"....
Keep them together as that is how there made to install. there are two kinds out right now the to pat gaskets were each side of the intake is its own gasket and the one like you have were both sides are attached to each other with an oil valley gasket.
Also remember to use sensor safe RTV on the joint were the head intake and block all meet both on the bottom and top of the gasket. they also normally do not really give you enough RTV with the gaskets to do the job so you may want to pick up a tube of it before you start but as I said make sure it is sensor safe because if it is not any gas off can take out the O2 sensors right now and will keep doing it tell there done gassing off and who knows how long that will take. Best to just avoid it from the get go.
