Hello,
New here, and new to the explorer-scene, but have a decent amount of knowledge in offroading, and much more in mechanics itself. I'm a bike-guy though, so I dont know all the tips and tricks to these four-wheeled wonders.
Just picked up a fairly big explorer. stock motor, coupled to a standard trans, to what i was TOLD (cannot verify), was f150 axles, 6" suspension lift, with a custom/modified kit 4" body lift, riding on 37" iroks.
My question is, the vehicle is stuck in nuetral. previous owner told me this is a common issue, and thought it was a 'shift fork'.... i have a feeling its more serious, but what would you guys recommend my method of attack be? the shifter has been unbolted (the top 3 bolts i believe is what it is), and was just sitting in there.
With the giant body lift (for once, a bodylift may be useful), theres plenty of room between the trans and bottom of the body, and i think i could get the whole cover off the top of the trans. will this benefit me? what kind of things should i be looking for?
Thanks guys. I'll be tearing into it tomorrow, and going to the junkyard, so any insight would be greatly appreciated!
