Anyone have or know where I can get a starting circuit diagram for a 93 Explorer. Or a trouble shooting guide for the starting system?

Welcome to the Forum, give more details on the matter and someone maybe able to help you right away. Good luck!

I was asked to help with a 93 Explorer.
I was told that it won't crank over. I asked if he checked the starter and he said he pulled it out and took it to Grand Auto where it worked on their bench.

I haven't worked on it yet - looking for starting circuit diag and or troubleshooting guide. Thanks. Joe

Ok....not sure on that, but brooklynbay may know whenever he gets on he seems to know where alot of stuff like that is on here. just stay tuned to the forum you'll get more replies later on.

how is the battery?

I had just thought of something as i was bout to head to bed, check the starter relay some folks call it the sylenoid on the passenger side fender it has a red booted plug on it along with a couple other wires. You may want to check that out too.

Battery is good. From what he told me I think the ignition switch may be worn out and not sending power to the starting circuit.

Thanks X92 -I'll check back later.

I'll check back tomorrow and if I see no1 has replied bout wiring diagrams I'll see if I can't find one and post a pic of one tomorrow.

get a haynes manual, $20 and should have everything you need....

the ign switch is cheap, especially if you think thats the culprit, its liek $30

As previously mentioned the starter solenoid on the passenger fender works as a switch to send power to the starter when the ignition key is turned to Start. You can bypass this by just connecting the two large lugs on the solenoid (I just use a screwdriver and touch both lugs at the same time). This will send juice to the stater and hopefully it will fire up. If so then you need to put a meter of on the solenoid to check it out.. to ensure the starter lug is getting 12v when the ignition key is turned to Start.

If you think print manuals are too old fashioned, Autozone has wiring diagrams as part of their "vehicle repair guides" on their website (the same ones that are in Chilton's print manuals). They should be adequate for basic diagnosis of the starter circuits

Thanks for the help. I will look at AutoZone’s web site for a downloadable diagram. (Thx MrShorty).
Anyone know if the factory service manuals are available online? In my experience the factory service manuals have always been the best.
I don't mind buying other manuals but since it's not my vehicle I don't want to spend the money on it.

IF the battery and starter have checked out fine, then I would look at two things immediately. The first being the aforementioned starter solenoid, and the second being the battery cables themselves. They are known to have an internal corrosion problem that will result in all accessories working, but a no-start condition. Visually the cables will appear to be fine. Check the resistance of the cables. If it's more than a few ohms, you most likely need to replace the cables.

The corrosion usually happens where the battery terminal attaches to the cable.
