I know, it isn't a explorer, but this is pretty urgent, since I don't want to get a ticket!!

When I turn my head lights on, the tail lights do work. If I apply the brakes though, nothing happens. I checked all the fuses, and nothing is blown. I even replaced the bulbs, and they still won't light up. The tail lights do work when I do this, but not the brake lights. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I took my tail light out, and undid the bulb, put the new one in, and noticed that the bulb has two filaments in it. The bigger top filament lights up when the head lights are turned on, and when the brake pedal is pressed, the smaller bottom filament does not.

 :banghead:

anyone? This doesn't make any since so far. Everything checks out.

1993 Ranger 3.0 V6, Manual Transmission. About 67,000 original miles on it.

sounds like mabey a bad brake light switch. look above the brake pedal, for a switch that is hit by the pedal when it is depressed. try playing with that switch, and mabey try replacing it. since you say your fuses are ok, thats all i can think of. good luck man!
