Just replaced the compressor and accumulator.

It was converted from r12 to 134a.

Does a 93 xl have an expansion valve??? If so, where is it???

Also, My new clutch only clutches in 4 about 1 sec and the shows over.... any ideas?

Thanks!

Looking at my Haynes manual page 3-16 & 3-17, paragraphs 19 and 20:

The expansion valve appears to be part of the evaporator core assembly. They recommend replacing the expansion (orifice) tube which can be replaced (fortunately) without removing the evap core. The expansion orifice tube has screens which are supposed to catch any junk in the system.

The orifice tube is located in the connection of the hose from the condensor going into the evaporator. This connection is near the bottom of the accumulator/dryer.

If you don't have a Haynes manual, and you are having trouble finding the location, email me and I will send you a PDF copy of the two pages from the manual.

Regarding the clutch only kicking in for a second: Are your pressures correct in the system? If too high or too low(especially) the pressure switch may be preventing the compressor from kicking in.

reading at 29 psi off of the accumulator..

This is with the clutch out on the compressor... seems like the pully is binding when I turn it with a socket and the engine off... going to feed some more ester oil into her even though I did load up about 2 oz in the compressor before I did the install...

If I install the valve now, I will have to have the system bled...

Sounds like your pressure is ok at 29psi. We talked about it in this thread:Dead Link Removed

Maybe the switch on the accumulator dryer is bad?
