My girlfriend tends to shift her 93 XLT at about 1500RPM in all gears.

I tend to shift at about 2500-3000 RPM. She says I shift to hard.

What are the minimum and nominal shift RPM's for each gear in the 5-speed transmission?

Will either "shift style" affect the training (- battery off for 15 minutes) and ultimate "performance" of the computer and engine configuration?

I just cleaned the MAF and IAC sensors (per suggestions elsewhere in this forum) and we have had some discussion about the computer training results, depending on who drives the XLT for the next thirty minutes

Thanks for your input(s) ...

Regards,
Gary

Shift at 1500? That seems really low to me. My auto cruises at about 1500 and most regualr shifts occur at 2000-2600.

Considering the engine doesn' treach its torque peak until over 3000 RPM it is petter to shift in the 2500-3000 RPM range, but shifting at 1500 won't hurt anything. The biggest drawback to short shifting (shifting at low RPM) is that the engine never reaches its power band and over time can develope carbon build up. IMHO short shifting is harder on an engine than running it through the bower band every shift. In relativley flat land (like you have in Texas) your girlfriend's driving style can exist, but she'll learn quickly that this style will not cut it when it comes to driving in mountainous terrain.

Thanks Jason and Mike for your comments.

My girlfriend is learning to shift higher on the curve.

Also, we could tell no difference in the "computer training" with either style of driving.

Next project includes - plugs and wires.

Regards to all,
Gary
