Been a while since I've been active on here, Acquired a 94 xlt 2wd with 169K miles 1 owner prior to me with forward slipping/gone for pretty cheap, Have been looking for a transmission for a reasonable price but everyone wants an arm and a leg for a used a4ld, Debating on selling it and have it posted for cheap but not much interest, Deciding if I should grab a 2.3 ranger trans to toss in it and baby it around for a daily, Any thoughts on using the 2.3 trans in the full size explorer ?, All input is welcome and Appreciate and miss this place, I need to get searching on here lol !.

How far are you from east TN? I've still got my original 93 Limited trans, which was 4WD. If you are planning to R&R the trans, you might as well find a place to bench build it. That should cost under $500, long ago that could be a $250 deal from some places I knew. My trans still worked, with 112,622 miles on it when I took the truck apart. But at this age they all need rebuilt.

The 2.3 has a different bellhousing bolt pattern and won’t line up.

find a c5 out of an early bronco II have a shop put c4 parts in it it'll work fine for a daily only draw back no overdrive

I would just rebuild it yourself. Most rebuild kits are cheap and Glacier has really good rebuild diary on the A4LD...and at this point what have you got to lose?
