'94 5-speed hydraulic line release tool...

Hey guys,

I have a '94 Explorer with a manual 5-speed that needs to be pulled. My Haynes manual says I need a special release tool (looks like a U or on the end of a handle) that somehow releases the hydraulic (brake fluid) line at the tranny for the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

I asked my local autoparts store and they didn't seem to know, or have the tool I see pictured. I also don't even see how the tool works?? The manual shows you somehow stick it on/through this white plastic piece on the line to release it. (Don't see how/what I need to do even if I had the tool.)

Anyone dropped a '91-'94 5-speed - and remember how you got that line off?

I am assuming that you are going to replace the clutch if you are removing the tranmission. If not you should be replacing the clutch and the slave cylinder. The clutch kit will have an alienment tool as well as as a hydraulic line tool.

If you are not replacing the slave cylinder I am sure that somebody on this message board has a spare.

My clutch kit didn't come with that tool. I used a small flat-blade screwdriver.

It's a pain to get it to release, but once it does, you'll see how it works.

Try a search here, there's several mentions of the procedure with more detail.

OK, thanks guys - I'll try a different search. I just don't seem to see where I'd even put the tool. I see the white "plastic" sleeve - but don't see what needs to be pushed to release it.

The white sleeve gets pushed in towards the trans. Took me a while to get it. It needs to be pushed evenly all the way around, and pushed in further than you think it can go.

I am not familiar with this particular application, can someone tell me if this is the garter spring type of connector, if so I can explain it for him.

looks like a quick release to me wonder if the old ac quick release tools would work?

No it uses something different. I checked it out.

Think of a flat piece of metal maybe an inch wide.... now on one end leaving a small tang on each side cut a deep U shape outta it. That is the tool he is describing. That is the Rotunda number above. it's not a garter spring thing.

OK - thanks! That's exactly what I need. I guess as RangerX said - the tool presses the white (plastic?) piece in towards the tranny/bronze-copper housing which should release it! Thanks again guys! Mark
