how do you remove the valve body? I have a 94 4.0 xl 4x4 a4ld and i lost 2nd gear and the tranny wont go into 3rd unless i let off the throttle. i have replaced the MOD and adjusted the bands on the drivers side of the tranny and still no lucky i think i might have to rebuild the valve body but not sure where to start.
so i went and took a look and the adjustment bolt went all the way in to the tranny with out any tension on it basicly i could turn it with my fingers. does that sound like a broken band? if so is it hard/expensive to fix?
well i dont have the knowledge to do a rebuild so how much do you think it will cost to have a shop do it for me? is it worth doing or should i maybe buy a new suv?
A shop will probably charge under $2k for a rebuilt transmission with installation. You could either get one from a junkyard (at your own risk) or rebuild it yourself. We have a sticky thread called the A4LD rebuild diary in the transmission section.
is there a standard tranny that i can put into my explorer and still use the same transfer case and the push button 4x4? basically just a straight swap.
