94 Exp LTD - headlight flicker

I've noticed that on occassion, the headlights flicker from low to high every few seconds and while this is happening the dash high beam indicator is also lit but not as bright as if it were on. I can turn the highbeam switch on and theyll stay on but in low they flicker. it does not happen all the time and even when it does, after a few minutes it seems to go to normal operation.

Ant clues as to what I can look for?

sounds like a bad multifunction switch in the column.

My daytime running lights tend to go into hi-beam mode (blue light on dash comes on) at times for no reason, then back to normal day-time brightness (blue light goes out) with out me doing anything.
Any reason why?

It's the multifunction switch.
remove it and clean it, or just replace it.

where's the multifunction switch? Is this the turn signal lever? If so, that works fine and I can still manually go into and out of high beam mode when i want.
It never goes into high beam on it's own when the low beams lights are on (ie. when driving at night)...only when daytime runners are on.
