94 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd
Hi, I recently bought a 94 Explorer XLT. This is the first Ford I have ever owned. I got such a good deal and the mileage is so low, I couldn't resist. Anyway, I had a few problems at first. The calipers seized up on the rotors driving it home. So after new rotors, calipers, brake lines, pads and tires, she ran decent enough. Still have the power issues and vibration in 4th gear. I can hear an exhaust leak by the muffler in idle and while driving it sounds like an exhaust leak up by the manifolds but I don't know if that is an echo. BUT from 0 to 45 it has weak acceleration and its puffing like a steam engine. I bought an OBD 1 scanner and it gave me 2 codes, 72 and 332. 332 is insufficient EGR flow detected, so I changed the EGR value thinking that it may fix the problem however it didn't. It gave me a tiny bit more power and increased gas mileage significantly but 0 to 45 is still weak acceleration and the puffing. I have replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires just in case it was a firing issue and no change. I am thinking that the exhaust is the reason I am having the 0-45 problem and the vibration may be the motor mounts (you can see the engine rocking slightly in idle and the bottom motor mounts shake in idle). I am going crazy trying to figure out what this could be. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On my '94 when I had this code, I changed out the entire EGR system -- hoses, DPFE, valve, solenoid, tube AND to top it off I cleaned the port/orifices where everything connected to intake manifold. It still threw that insufficient EGR flow code. Turns out that I had to pull the upper intake manifold. Carbon had completely clogged the inlet port near the throttle body. Once I reamed out the tube, it ran great.

Now, your truck probably has more issues than that. But I thought I would speak to the EGR issue first, since I just went through that.

sounds to me like the port is clogged up on the intake . You might have more issues as Rhett said , but i would give this a try first . just keep us informed & we will help all we can .

Yea I was thinking about taking the intake off and checking the throttle body and all that. Thanks for the ideas guys, I'll keep yous all posted.
