This is my first post in the forums and I don't know a whole lot about cars but I'll try my best to describe what's happening.

So whenever it is cold outside 40ish or lower my Explorer doesnt want to start. By that I mean I turn the key it cranks and jumps to around 1000 rpm initially and then dies. If I try starting him over and over long enough he will eventually stay started long enough I can give it gas and rev him up around 3000 rpm. During that time he will try to die and sputter the whole time. After a few minutes he will finally stop sputtering and I can let off the gas and he won't die. I was looking around for solutions and some people were saying it could be the IAC valve or Mass Airflow. So I have replaced both of those which didn't help at all.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

i have the same problem all the way to having to rev it up to keep it running...i tryed everything know to man,so i gave up and took it to the ford dealer..They hooked it up to every machine they had,had everyone look at it and couldnt find nething wrong. So they ended up telling me that with it being cold out side something inside the motor has to be at a temp...something like that...I guess its time to get the X a blanket!!

mines been doing it every since its been down under 40 in the mountains where i live...It should be all good once it gets warmer out

It's strange because it didn't do it last year when it was in the single digits. So something has happened between last winter and this winter.

Your truck definitely shouldn't be doing that, but I don't have an idea of what could be causing it, unfortunately. Good luck finding out, though.

i have tried everyting replaced every sensor on the hole engine with new ones..got a new tb and got rid of the stock air box for a Universal cold air intake...seems to be running really good besides that first start in the moring and after the the hole day it starts on the first crank everytime

What happens on the first start? Does it just take 2 tries or is it still the dying and sputtering?

Mine did that-- the PCV valve was lettin hot oil onto the air intake temp sensor-- run fine the spit sputter no power-- then run fine again. Changed the PCV valve and poof no problems.

when i first start mine the first time in the morning it runs for a quick i mean quick second then cuts off.
I then turn the key again and poof she runs like a champ..she starts on the first turn of the key

I dunno whats my problem with her but i guess its one of them damn if you do,damn if you dont things.but o well cant wait till it gets warm

have you checked your IAT or ECT? Not throwing any codes? I would be checking your vacuum lines and intake manifold gasket.

The check engin light is not on and the only code I get is the all clear. I'll take a look at the IAT and ECT when I get the chance. We just had a snow storm blow in which isn't helping things.

Well this morning I ended up draining the battery enough trying to get him to start/stay started, that I could no longer get above 500rpm. Usually when everything is working right he'll hit at least 1000rpm (on a cold start) and then idle there for a bit before leveling out at 700-800rpm. It has been cold enough that I haven't been able to work on him any though...

Check the cold start fuel injector. It may be bad or unplugged.

 it is placed or the fuel injector cold, or you're talking about all the injectors.
Thank you very much
