Possibly a bad ignition switch. Do not mistake it for the key lock cylinder, all that does is push a rod the length of the steering column and that activates the real switch further down towards the base of the column. Check to see if the sw itself is loose.

That was one of the first things that i replaced, with it off the column and pushed by hand it still would not crank over

Do you have access to a meter or 12v test light?
You should get at the ignition sw connector:
12+ B+ Y Batt
12+ Run BK/LG
12+ Run GY/Y
12+ Run/Accy BK/LG
12+ Start R/LB
12+ Start GY
12+ Start/Run R/LG

is it a auto or 5 speed??

auto trans look at the neutral safety switch/backup switch.
5 speed look at the triple function switch (clutch safety switch).

otherwise, you have a broken wire somewhere.

There is a red with light blue striped wire that goes from the ign. switch to the solenoid that is not getting power when the key is turned to start, power is coming out of the switch but through the wire
