Hi, my truck recently just died while it was idling but stared back up. It is running very bad idles up and down, when i rev rpms up to any level and try to just hold it there it stays there for a bit then starts to bog down and cut out, if I pump the pedal it will rev back up but if I let it go back to idle it will die. It also does this while driving, it's so bad that I can not drive the truck. It runs ok while it's cool then once warmed up it runs real bad.

It was doing this for a few days then just got to where it would shut off right after starting it. I took the air intake assembly hose off and it runs once more like I described above. I got a code scanner and it gave me code 159 which says that the masf voltage is incorrect, either to low or too high. Does it sound like I just need to replace the mass air flow sensor or is it giving this code because the intake hose is off which I don't see how since the code test is done with the engine off. I wanted some feedback before I spend 100.00 on a new masf.

Thanks so much!,
James

Maf

May just need to be cleaned. Do a search for the proceedure.

While you have the MAF sensor off you may as well check the air filter/box and shoot some carb cleaner in the intake.

Thanks for the replies

Hi, thanks for the replies. I will try that first. I was just wondering if the masf could cause my truck to run(or not run) that bad or if I should also be looking at something else.

Thanks again for the help I really appreciate it!,
James
